Self-abandonment, permisiveness, reduces existence to a process in which the power to create events is arrested. The wisdom of the individual is not sufficient for the appreciation of the ability to say 'no' to oneself. If one fails to accept the teaching of  a tradition, one learns from cardinal experiences, from drastic failures or sudden outbursts of awareness, that self-denials are as important   as self-satisfactions.

על בעיית גוף ונפש

 

לפעמים עומדים אנחנו לפני חומה. חומה גבוהה. לא ניתן לטפס עליה. קשה לפרוץ אותה ועם זאת יש משמעות   לדפיקת ראשנו בקיר. בסופו של דבר יש רק דרך אחת לרכוש וודאות לגבי אמיתותה של מציאות כלשהיא וזאת על ידי דפיקת הראש בקיר. אז למדים אנחנו שישנה מציאות מחוץ לתודעה שלנו.

Sometimes we stand before a wall. It is very high. We cannot scale it. It is hard to break through it, but even knocking our heads against the wall is full of meaning.
