Heschel's entire literary output may come under one heading: Heschel in Search of Meaning - the meaning of a living God in a world divorced from Him; the meaning of man as a partner in a Divine covenant, as one who mends the world and ever strives to hope for the good and the holy which lay beyond the dispair and filth surrounding him; the meaning of Jewish existence as a noble mission transcending a mere stroke of blind fate.
