תזכורות

 

...אורח חיים יהודי מהווה תשובה לאחת השאלות העליונות של האנושות, והיא: כיצד צריך האדם - יצור שמהותו בהיותו נברא בצלם א-לוהים - לחשוב, להרגיש ולהתנהג ? כיצד יכול האדם לחיות בדרך שתעלה בקנה אחד עם נוכחותו של א-לוהים ? אם לא נהיה ערים לבעיה, לא נוכל להעריך את התשובה.

המצוות כולן הן דרכים לעורר בנו את ההכרה שאנו דרים בשכנות לא-לוהים, בממד הקדושה. הן מעוררות ברוחנו את סודם הלא נראה של הדברים והמעשים; הן משמשות תזכורות  לכך שאנו האפוטרופוסים של היקום ולא אדוניו, תזכורות לכך שהאדם אינו חי בשממה רוחנית, ושכל מעשה של האדם הוא מפגש בין האנושי לבין הקדוש.

המצוות כולן מביעות בראש ובראשונה יראת קודש. הן הסימן לכך שאנו ערים לנוכחותו הנצחית של א-לוהים, הן קילוס נוכחותו במעשים. הברכות נאמרות בזמן הווה. אנו אומרים  'ברוך אתה ה' המבדיל...' או  ' המוציא...'. לברך פירושו להיות ער לכך שא-לוהים מחדש תמיד מעשה בראשית.

מה הם דברי הנביאים אם לא חרדתו של א-לוהים על האדם ודאגתו לשלמות האדם ? מה הם אם לא תזכורת לכך 

שלא-לוהים אינטרס בחיי האדם , ושהפרטיות אינה קיימת ? איש אינו יכול להסתיר עצמו, איש אינו יכול לשהות מחוץ לטווח ראייתו של א-לוהים. הוא שוכן עם ישראל  'בתוך טומאתם' (וי' טז 16). החיים אינם עניין פרטי של האינדיוודואל. החיים הם מה שהאדם עושה בזמנו של א-לוהים, מה שהאדם עושה עם עולמו של א-לוהים.

Reminders

...the Jewish way of living ia an answer to a supreme human problem, namely : How must a man, a being who is in essence the likeness of God, think, feel and act ? How can he live in a way compatible with the presence of God ? Unless we are aware of the problem, we are unable to appreciate the answer.

All mitsvot are means of evoking in us the awareness of living in the neighborhood of God, of living in the holy dimension. They call to mind the inconspicuous mystery of things and acts, and are reminders of our being the stewards, rather than the landlords of the universe; reminders of the fact that man does not live in a spiritual wilderness, that every act of man is an encounter of the human and the holy.

All mitsvot first of all express reverence. They are indications of our awareness of God's eternal presence, celebrating His presence in action. The benedictions are in the present tense. We say 'Blessed be Thou Who creates...Who brings forth.' To say a benediction is to be aware of His continuous creation.

What are all prophetic utterance if not an expression of God's anxiety for man and His concern with man's integrity ? A reminder of God's stake in human life; a reminder that there is no privacy ? No one can conceal himself, no one can be out of His sight. He dwells with Israel 'in the midst of their uncleanliness' (Leviticus 16:16). Living is not a private affair of the individual. Living is what man does with God's time, what man does with God's world.
