The Kotzker's diagnosis of the human situation goes beyond the scope of the strictly religious and extends to the realm of the social and political. Understanding can begin only when man undeceives himself, for he cannot survive in deceit. For instance, can peace be secured among the nations by a politics that is laden with deception ? Will a statesman whose decisions are determined exclusively by the desire for personal benefit deserve the confidence of his people and promote their welfare ?
