את הכתוב "צדק צדק תרדוף" פירש הרבי מלובלין כך: "אם יחשוב האדם שהוא עומד על הצדק הגמור ואין לו עוד לשאוף לשום דבר, אז אין הצדק מכירו. עליך לרדוף אחריו בלי הרף ולא לעמוד על מקום אחד, ועליך להיות בעיניך כקטן שנולד שעדיין לא עשה כלום - זהו הצדק האמיתי".

The words in the Scriptures: "Justice, justice shalt thou follow," were interpreted in the following way by the rabbi of Lublin:

"When a man believes that he is wholly just and need not strive further, then justice does not recognize him. You must follow and follow justice and never stand still, and in your own eyes, you must always be like a new-born child that has not yet achieved anything at all - for that is true justice."
