מדברי רבי שמחה בונם מפשיסחה

פעם אחת אמר רבי בונם:

כמה מקנא אני בקצב, שבערב שבת הוא מחלק כל היום את הבשר וקודם שהחשיך היום הוא מתייגע לגבות את הכסף, והנה הוא שומע שקוראים לקבלת שבת, והוא נחפז בכל כוחו הביתה לקדש, והוא מתאנח ואומר: "ברוך השם שנתן לנו את השבת למנוחה !". הלוואי ויכולתי לטעום כמותו את טעם השבת !

Rabbi Bunam  once said :

"How I envy the butcher who weighs out meat for the sabbath all day Friday, and before evening goes from house to house to collect his money. And then he hears the call that the sabbath is being welcomed in the House of Prayer and he runs there as fast as his legs will carry him, so that he too can welcome the sabbath, and hurries home to pronounce the blessing, and sighs and says: ' Praise be to God who has given us the sabbath as a day of rest.'

"Oh, if I could only savor the sabbath as he does !"
