האנושות נאנחת, נגועה בפחד, תסכול וייאוש. למרות העצב שלנו, למרות אושוויסץ ואדישות האדם לאושוויץ, עדיין מחוייבים אנחנו לוודאות של גאולה באחרית הימית לצד האמונה באפשרות להביא את הגאולה בכל יום. כפי שלחם ומים ניתנים להשגה בכל יום כן הגאולה מתרחשת בכל יום
ההסטוריה היהודית עשירה בארועים חשובים, הרי גורל. יחד עם זאת אלה כמעט ולא מוזכרים בתפילותנו. אפילו מעמד הר סיני , למרות שהוא בנפשנו, אך לעיתים נדירות הוא מקבל ביטוי מפורש בתפילותנו. הארוע האחד שמוזכר תדיר, כמעט ללא לאות הוא יציאת מצרים.
יציאת מצרים היא אחד מרעיונות היסוד שביהדות. אלוקים גואל את העבדים. הקב"ה מציל את העשוקים. הכוונה היא לגאולת הרוח לצד הארוע החברתי הממשי בהסטוריה , לעיני כל

We must not underestimate the power of justice, the power of compassion
In the words of the prophet Amos (5:24)

Let justice roll down like waters
and righteousness like a mighty stream

Mankind lies groaning, afflicted by fear, frustration, and despair. But in spite of our own dismay, in spite of Auschwitz and man's indifference to Auschwitz, we remain committed to the certainty of ultimate redemption as well as to the belief in the possibility of bringing about redemption every day.Just as bread and water may be obtained every day, redemption comes about every day.
Jewish history is rich in important, even momentous events. However, they are hardly mentioned in our liturgy. Even the great moment at Sinai while recalled in our spirit is only rarely spelled out in our prayers. The one event mentioned continually, almost incessantly, is the exodus from Egypt.
The exodus from Egypt is one of the central ideas in Judaism. God redeems the slaves. God saves the oppressed. What is meant is redemption of spirit as well as a social and concrete event in history, for all men to see.
